Toronto is a globally competitive centre of excellence in medical technology, focusing principally on research, clinical work, and start-up support. With approximately 120 medical device companies, a strong medical technology supply/service chain, and a robust technology sector, it is a medium-sized cluster with strong growth potential. Toronto's four universities, four colleges, and twelve teaching/research hospitals make major contributions to the advancement of medicine, science, and technology, and foster a deep talent pool with skills relevant to all aspects of medical technology. Much of this expertise, along with advanced equipment and facilities, is concentrated in the downtown Discovery District, creating a vibrant and collaborative environment for the development of new technologies.
